Solar Eclipse on 22 July 2009 at India | Photo Gallary



The solar eclipse of July 22, 2009 was the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century, lasting as much as 6 minutes and 39 seconds in some places.A total solar eclipse passing over some of Earth’s most densely populated regions on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, may become the most viewed eclipse ever.


The eclipse started off on the west coast of India and travel north east across the sub-continent passing over Varanasi and Darjeeling lasting for a duration of 4 minutes, then onward through Bhutan and Bangladesh till it reaches China. Most of the best viewing opportunities are in China, where some 30 million people will be able to witness the solar eclipse in the coastal cities of Shanghai and Hangzhou alone, according to veteran eclipse scientist Jay Pasach off of Williams College in Massachusetts.
