SlingPlayer Mobile for Android out today

SlingPlayer Mobile for Android is hitting Google-backed blowers today. The new app will let you chow down on recorded and live TV wherever you are, as long as you’ve got a 3G connection or are hooked up to Wi-Fi.

To get it playing nice, you’ll also need a Slingbox Solo, Pro or Pro HD wired up to your box back at home. If you have, then it’s just a case of firing up the app, trawling the EPG and checking out the latest World Cup matches or tiresome tales from EastEnders on your handset.

Sling Media says it’s also slashed start up times, so you won’t have to deal with nasty lag when you’re gagging to get your TV fix. There’s also a new UI so you can get into most recently viewed shows in quick and breezy fashion.

The SlingPlayer Mobile for Android app is on the Android Market now, costing $29.99. Sling says the price will be charged in dollars and then converted according to whatever your bank’s rates are right now. Seems a tad bizarre, but well worth it for the chance to watch telly on-the-go minus a monthly subscription.
