The biggest announcement so far at CTIA, is the Samsung Galaxy S, which is Samsung’s newest Android handset. This phone by no means your average smarphone. The S in Galaxy S, stands for Smart Life, and its Samsung’s newest user interface and homescreen. And I’m telling you at a first glance, I thought I was looking at a iPhone homescreen, but the Smart Life interface offers some new and different options, that Android users have yet to seen. The new homescreen will offer the user a choice of widgets and information that the user can customize, so of which is news, weather, meetings, maps and that sort of thing. Smart Life also offers a social hub that has a “always on” connection to all the major social networking sites. It’s Samsung’s version of MotoBLUR or HTC’s Friendstream, but obviously they tweaked it their way. It will run on top of Android 2.1.
The hardware specs on this handset is where it gets good. The Galaxy S offers a 4-inch Super AMOLED WVGA, 800×480 touchscreen, it runs on a 1GHz application processor, a 5.0 mega-pixel camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and it looks like it will come in a 8GB and 16GB model expandable with up to a 32GB microSD card. “The Android-powered Galaxy S will set a new standard for smart phones,” said JK Shin, president and head of Mobile Communications Business. And that is a big statement, but so far at this early stage it does look like this beast of smartphone, or should I say “super-phone”, can live up to the hype. Also Samsung will offer collaborations with top content providers will bring full length movies, TV shows, videos, books, magazines to this and other Samsung Android devices. I will be keeping my eys on the latest info for this phone. It should be interesting.
