LucasArts has today made point-and-click gamers everywhere very happy by announcing Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge for the iPhone/iPod touch this summer. This completely updated version of the classic game adds new gameplay features to expand on the successful The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, such as even giving the player the option of directly controling hero Guybrush Threepwood and eschewing the traditional point-and-click controls. In-game audio commentary from the game’s creators has also been added, along with an art viewer which enables players to view glimpses of certain locations from the old game.
As you can tell from the comparison screenshots that LucasArts has released (although they’re not necessarily from the iPhone version), the graphics have been given a complete high-definition overhaul, to say the least! This is what LucasArts’ President Darrell Rodriguez had to say about the game:
“The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition really resonated with gamers young and old thanks to its classic storyline and updated gameplay features. We’re adding even more great new features in this sequel and can’t wait for classic Monkey Island fans and newcomers alike to experience perhaps the most beloved installment in the franchise ever.”
