Nintendo: E3 too loud for Vitality Sensor

At E3 2009, Nintendo’s headline announcement amounted to its top execs donning the bizarre Wii Vitality Sensor and saying this finger-friendly peripheral would add a new dimension to its best-selling console.   Fast-forward 12 months and all the hype surrounding the Nintendo 3DS has rendered the Vitality Sensor old news. ————————————- “The atmosphere at E3 which is noisy and adrenaline-filled, and loud and stressful,” said Nintendo’s second-in-command in the US, Cammie Dunaway. “It just didn’t seem like the best environment to introduce a product that’s really about relaxing, so we decided we’d think about other venues that would be more appropriate.”   Considering that other than the 3DS, Nintendo’s schedule was focused largely on sequels to established classics, it’s a safe bet to assume the Vitality Sensor has hit some delays. But for those who want to check their heart rate with their Wii, chances are this new add-on will rock up later this year. At a more relaxed event, natch.   Via Eurogamer

Apple iPad: 3 million sold

Apple has gleefully announced that the iPad has hit the three million mark. The tablet, which only landed on US shelves in April and been up for grabs here in Blighty for six weeks, is now storming ahead of even the original iPhone’s success.   The first Apple mobile took 73 days to sell a million. It’s taken the iPad 80 days to reach three times that figure. And it doesn’t look like demand for a gadget that some said would struggle to find a niche is slowing either.   ————————————-

————————————- “People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” said Steve Jobs. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”   It’s only four weeks since Apple said it had sold two million iPads. At this rate, it’s a dead cert that no other tablet will be able to scale the same heights, especially with MeeGo and Chrome OS rivals still MIA.
