Apple seeks US import ban against Nokia

Apple is attempting to prevent Nokia handsets being imported into the US as legal battles between the two companies escalate.

In what is fast becoming the tech industry’s version of the ultimate cat-fight or schoolyard brawl, the feud between Nokia and Apple is becoming increasingly childish. The latest development has reportedly seen Apple simply change the names around on a lawsuit filed by Nokia before presenting it to the US International Trade Commission in an attempt to prevent the Finnish company importing products into the US.

Nokia suing Apple for iPhone patent infringement

Apple counter-sues Nokia for copyright infringement

This tit-for-tat approach being taken by Apple follows a legal complaint registered by Nokia in December that sought to ban imports of Apple’s iPhone, iPod and MacBook products on the grounds that Apple infringed on seven Nokia patents “in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, and computers”.

Whilst legitimate cases of patent infringements need to be treated with legal severity, the childish actions of these two giants of the tech world risk such instances becoming nothing more than a farcical waste of time and money, less the epic battle between Rocky and Apollo Creed, more the laughable rivalry between Austin Powers and Dr. Evil

Mark Durrant, a Nokia spokesman, responded to Apple’s latest move saying: “Nokia will study the complaint when it is received and continue to defend itself vigorously.” He added: “However this does not alter the fact that Apple has failed to agree to appropriate terms for using Nokia technology and has been seeking a free ride on Nokia’s innovation since it shipped the first iPhone in 2007.”

Now, now, play nice children; there is no reason why you can’t all just get along.
